Colony Farm Regional Park Renamed to ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park

Kwikwetlem First Nation and Metro Vancouver jointly announce the renaming of Colony Farm Regional Park to as ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park and Colony Farm Road to as ƛ̓éxətəm Road on July 1, 2023. kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation and their members selected the name ƛ̓éxətəm (pronounced tla-hut-um) which means ‘to be invited’ in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓. The name reflects their welcome to visitors to ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park, which is located on their traditional and ancestral territory and adjacent to their ancestral village of slakəyánc (Coquitlam I.R. #1).

kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation announce new Sockeye Hatchery Hatchery is being built nearby the Coquitlam Dam in the heart of the Nation’s traditional, ancestral and unceded territory known as the skʷƛ̓əma:ɬ x̌acaʔ (Coquitlam Lake) Watershed. New Funding helps Nation create a safer, sacred Cemetery to honour our ancestors and loved ones

kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation receives new funding to upgrade and protect its historical cemetary, including $300,000 from the First Nation Land Management Resources Centre and $387,000 from the First Peoples' Cultural Council. Our Historic Cemetary serves as a sacred final resting place for our Elders and Ancestors as well as extended family and relatives from other First Nations.
